More about Connected Families

Kia ora, I’m Suzanne, and I created Connected Families to support parents and caregivers in the most important role they’ll ever have—raising their tamariki.

I’ve worked in the field of special education for over 20 years, both in The Netherlands and since 2011 in New Zealand. Over the years, I’ve worked alongside many whānau raising children with diverse needs, including Autism, Down syndrome, Global Developmental Delays, and other developmental or behavioural challenges.

What I’ve learned is that families are the experts on their children. My role is  to partner with you—to listen without judgment, to work together on what matters most to you, and to support your child in a way that fits your family, your values, and your everyday life.

Suzanne - Behaviour Consultant

What you can expect

I use a coaching based approach that puts you in the driver's seat. You choose what's important, and I walk alongside you to explore what's working, what's feeling hard, and what might help.

A big part of our work together is using the Notice-Recognise-Respond framework, which means:

  • Notice - What is your child showing through their behaviour, emotions or actions?

  • Recognise - What might the behaviour mean? what strengths or needs are underneath?

  • Respond - What can we do to support your child - and your whole whānau - to thrive?

My goal is not just to help in the moment, but to support you to feel more confident and equipped for the future. When challenges arise (as they always do), you'll have tools you can return to again and again.
